Fat or sugar, which one causes heart disease? For years Americans have heard that a diet low in fat and cholesterol was the key to living a long life without heart disease. Recently, more and more researchers are coming to the conclusion that this is far from the truth. Evidence is pointing to a long list of research some of which goes back over one hundred years to show why a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates may be the real cause of heart disease. Newer research into the usefulness of cholesterol shows why cholesterol may be less of the villain and more of the hero. Effectiveness of cholesterol lowering medications are even being questioned lately. Not that they’re effective in lowering cholesterol or not but whether they are helping to extend a person’s life or not. Check out the video of this University of South Florida researcher who highlights some of the more recent evidence that we need to make a drastic change in the way our country looks at healthy eating.
